Special Operations Drill

Tonight’s drill was a perfect reminder that being a volunteer firefighter isn’t just about putting out flames, responding to car accidents, or—yes—occasionally rescuing a very confused goose. There’s a whole world of behind‑the‑scenes skills we train on to keep our community safe.

Tonight’s mission?

Winches. Grip hoists. And the art of retrieving our UTV from places it absolutely did not want to be.

Why does this matter?

• We practice technical rescues for when vehicles, equipment, or even people end up somewhere tough to reach.

• We train with specialized tools so we can move heavy objects safely without making the situation worse.

• We build muscle memory long before we ever need it on a real call.

• And yes… we learn how to do all of this without accidentally winching ourselves into the woods.

Our volunteers put in the work week after week so when the unexpected happens, we’re ready—whether it’s a fire, a crash, or a goose with questionable life choices.
