Recently the department was called to a home on center street in the Budd Lake Section of town for a fire in the house. Chief 50 arrived and reported smoke from the windows and called for a second alarm. Cars 51, 90, 91 and 52 arrived along with Engine 95 (Flanders) and Engine 59 crews quickly put out the fire on the stove with minor extension to the walls. The owner was taken to an area hospital with some smoke inhalation by Flanders EMS. The crews had a different task at hand there were at least 12 cats in the house, 6 were rescued and animal control was called to assist. The home was secured, and the health department went back the next day to assist with securing the rest of the cats while the owner was being treated. Thank to great neighbors the cats were cared for.
