Tuesday morning November 26th around 10:00 am firefighters from Chester Fire Co. responded to Rt. 24 in the township for a report of a fire in a dwelling. Deputy Chief Drysdale arrived and had fire in the rear of the house coming from the chimney area that quickly spread to the roof, the first in engine stretched lines and tried to cut off the fire but were forced out when fire broke through the roof and started to collapse several hand lines and a ladder pipe were put in service to knock down the fire. Fairmont Fire positioned there compressed air foam truck on the front lawn and assisted in knocking down the fire. Mutual aide fire companies continued to arrive and assist with setting up water shuttle due to lack of hydrants in the area. Flanders and Netcong engines secured a 5,000 foot hose lay from a hydrant up the street to give crews extra water. After most of the fire was knocked down crews went back in and worked to bring the fire under control and do extensive overhaul there were no injuries reported and the fire was under control within two hours. Fire companies that responded to the scene were from Budd Lake, Randolph, Mendham Borough, Brookside, Netcong, Flanders, New Vernon, Mendham Township, Ralston, and Fairmount Fire Co. the Morris County Rehab bus and the Morris County Mutual Aid Coordinator also assisted.
