Firefighters Cleanup Haz-Mat by Lake

Around 1:00 am on Friday morning April 17th Budd Lake Fire Firefighters responded to the intersection of Sandshore and Elizabeth Lane for the smell of gas. After checking storm drains the crews traced it back to a gas station on Rt. 46 where a delivery truck earlier had overfilled the tank and gas was running into the storm drains. The crews from Engine 53 and Special Services 54 put out pads and booms in the lake and storm drains to soak up the gas. Morris County Haz-Mat and the county prosecutors office were called to the scene to assist. Crews were released around 4:00 am and returned around 2:00 pm to help flush the drains as a cleanup company was called in to finish the clean up.
